About

Our Vision, Mission, and Values:

“To create environments where people are encouraged to pursue intimacy with Jesus Christ, community with insiders, and influence with outsiders.”

Orange County Church is the oldest active protestant church in Orange County.  The church has been located in the same building and at the same address since 1881.

Our Strategy:

“Every dollar and action will be focused on transforming people into fully devoted followers of Christ.”
Three things must be happening for this to occur:
1. The unchurched must attend our church
2. Attendees must be introduced to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
3. Believers, new and mature, must be challenged to take the next step in their spiritual journey to become more like Jesus.

Denomination:

Orange County Church is part of the Advent Christian Denomination.

What does Advent Mean?

“Advent” simply means the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.  Christmas is called the Advent Season because we celebrate the first coming of Jesus Christ.  Scripture tells us that Christ will return at the end of time (Acts 1, Matthew 24, Mark 13, 1 Corinthians 15) which is known as the second advent of Christ.  Today we believe that Jesus will indeed return when the trumpet sounds but scripture is clear that “no man knows the day or hour” (Mark 13:32).  While we live with the expectation and hope that Christ could return at any moment we know death is a certainty within our lifetime.  As Christians we prepare for both of these scenarios in the same way, by believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God born of the virgin Mary who lived a perfect sinless life, showing us the example of how we are to live and please God.  He died on the cross paying the penalty for our sins and rose from the grave on the third day as scripture states.  When we put our trust in the risen Lord we have the forgiveness of sins, a new life begins, and the promise of eternal life in heaven is our undeserved reward.

Leadership Team:

Our leadership team recognizes the authority of God, and realizes that we are shepherds who serve under the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We desire to devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. Our passion and goal is to equip the believers for the work of the ministry until we all attain maturity in the fullness of Christ.

Lead Pastor Jack Mumford

Jack Mumford became the Lead Pastor of Orange County Church in 2014. Jack has been in ministry for 15 years serving as Youth Pastor, Worship Leader, and Associate Pastor. This is his first Senior Pastorate. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies with a Minor in Church Ministry from Columbia Bible College and a Master’s degree in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. Jack also serves as Chaplain for the Tustin Police Department. Jack and his wife, Kizzy, have been married since 2006. They have four beautiful children and absolutely love the people, the place, and the calling to serve the Lord in Southern California. “God saved me, is saving me, and I have the faith that He will save me in the future. Jesus said, ‘If you love me, you will obey my commands.’ Most interpret this as a legalistic measure of success seeing obedience to God as proof of their love for him. I don’t see it that way; I am so captured by the love and grace God has showered upon me that I am grateful to follow Him. It’s not a duty, it’s an outpouring of appreciation. “I aspire to communicate righteousness not rightness in my Christian life and teaching. Rightness leads to arrogance, righteousness begins at the cross of Jesus and ends with my beliefs and behaviors being shaped by the grace God has offered us all through His Son. We haven’t made mistakes that need correction as if thinking differently will save us. We are sinners in need of a Savior. We don’t just need a second chance we need a new start. I want you to start by taking the next step to becoming more like Jesus, no matter where you are in your spiritual journey.” -Jack

Elder Mike Coon

Orange County Church has been a part of Mike Coon’s life for nearly thirty years.
In the early nineties, during their search for a wedding venue, Mike and Gina Coon stumbled upon a charming old church in Tustin’s historic district and found not only a perfect location, but a loving church home. During their first year of marriage, they accepted the Lord’s free gift of salvation and were baptized and welcomed as members of the church.
Mike has served in various capacities over the years including children’s ministry, trustee (maintenance), and worship team (music). He’s been an elder for the past 8 years.
Mike and Gina have five children, including a son serving in the United States Navy. They are still raising their two youngest.
“Every day, I continue to be amazed at the way God demonstrates His love for me. I do not have a radical conversion story. My walk is more of a process where God shows me his faithfulness in the little things, meeting me where I am but not leaving me there. He has been at my side, leading me through this life, through the good and bad, never forsaking me. I rely on his saving grace every day. I am continually in awe and humbled that God uses even me to serve in His work of salvation for this world.” -Mike

Elder David Losey

David has served The Lord for over 30 years. His journey began in Orange County when he came to know Jesus at the age of 38 at a local church. His retail career took him to Oregon and Washington and eventually back to California where he was called into ministry in 1995. David worked as an Administrative Pastor for two years, then he and Linda were called to pastor a church in West Sacramento for ten years. When they moved back to Linda’s home town in 2009, to care for her mother, they were drawn to Orange County Church. David is excited to be part of the leadership team to fulfill his passion on seeing the Body of Christ while operating in their gifts and working in unity to transform the city, county, and state. They have five sons, two daughters and three grandchildren who all live in the Southern California area.

Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in Yahweh’s law.
